Whether as a subscribing friend or not, there are always opportunities to volunteer at Sun Rising. On site, these include
- filling the bird feeders
- hay raking
- tree planting
- tree mulching
- nature surveying
- contributing cakes to the tea stall
- helping with refreshments at events
Have a look at our Events page for upcoming dates.
The homemade chocolate cake to the right was made by a family specifically for our 2017 Open Day.
Away from Sun Rising, opportunities to help include ensuring there are plenty of Sun Rising leaflets where you feel they would be appropriate, such as your local funeral directors, perhaps the surgery or CAB, health food shop or natural therapy centre, a hospice or church community with which you are involved.
Perhaps your local WI, U3A, SCAN or other community group would be interested in having someone come to give a talk about Sun Rising.
At Sun Rising we also aim to have a number of events through the course of the year, such as music recitals or talks, held in the Roundhouse, for which donations are asked or tickets sold.
In 2011, harpist Elizabeth Gray gave a beautiful afternoon of music and words, beginning a series of music recitals. In 2012 we had international violinist Steve Bingham, in 2014 folk musician and storyteller Donald Maccombie, in 2016, the Hot Tone Rhythm boys with their lazy afternoon jazz, and in 2018, the Myddleton String Quartet.
If you know of anyone who would be willing to give a performance in aid of the Friends, do let us know. We'd be keen to hear from them.
There are also opportunities for talk, walks or presentations, either in the roundhouse or the local village hall, for which donations are asked or tickets sold. In 2011, local historian Kevin Wyles gave a talk and led a walk around the local landscape. In 2017, Paul Leadbeater from the local barn owl conservation group gave us a fascinating talk on barn owls. In 2018, the county recorder David Brown gave a talk on moths with beautiful photographs.
If you have any ideas for talks, or other fundraising ideas, do let us know.
